Draping/Pattern Making
"The Rivals"
This opera was produced in 2023 by the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in conjunction with the Fletcher Opera Institute and was set in 1900. I was assigned to a character named Malaprop, which was a double casted roll. Two bodices and one skirt with some "opera magic" were built by me and my team to account for the singers being different sizes. The garments had hidden magnets within them to allow the singers to place magnets and a peacock on their shoulder throughout the performance as an ode to the character's name.
"Orlando Palladino"
This opera was produced in 2023 by the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in conjunction with the Fletcher Opera Insitute and was set in space. I built and altered for two characters, Caronte and Pasquale.
"Dangerous Corner"
This play was produced in 2023 by the University of North Carolina School of the Arts for the school of drama. I draped a velvet bias cut dress for the character, Olwen. The dress has shoulder closures, is fully lined and is inspired by a Vionnet design.
"Mother Courage and her Children"
This play was produced in 2023 by the University of North Carolina School of the Arts for the school of drama. I patterned and built a doublet and jerkin for two different actors.
"Amadeus"
This play was produced in 2022 by the University of North Carolina School of the Arts for the school of drama and spanned the gap of the late 1700's into the early 1800's. I patterned a "faux" historical dress that appeared to be a full dress when worn underneath an overcoat, but it functions similarly to a pinafore to allow the actress to complete her quick change in a more timely manner.
Class Work
This section will take you to view class projects that I patterned and built in a number of costume technology classes over a four year period.
